State Patrol reports alcohol involved in fatal Highway 25 crash
Authorities identified the 64-year-old Waverly woman who died Tuesday, Nov. 20, in a crash on Highway 25 near Pierz.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported the woman killed was Vonda Lea Hyldahl, whose 2016 Kia Optima struck a semitrailer and an SUV, sending five people—including two young children—to the hospital. According to the crash report, alcohol was involved on the part of Hyldahl.
The state patrol responded at 5:03 p.m. to the crash on Highway 25 at 133rd Street in Pierz Township. The Kenworth semitrailer, driven by 56-year-old Kevin John Block of Pierz, was northbound on Highway 25, while the Chevrolet Equinox involved was stopped in the southbound lane, waiting to turn left at 133rd Street.
Hyldahl was traveling west on 133rd Street when her vehicle failed to stop. The Kia hit both the semitrailer and the Equinox, driven by Adam Alan Hanson, 27, Little Falls.
Transported to St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls were Block and Hanson, along with Hanson's passengers—Jasmine Renee Morgan, 24; Audrey Aria Hanson, 5; and Jaelah Rayne Hanson, an infant. All involved the crash wore seat belts, the state patrol reported, and the crash caused airbags to deploy in the SUV and in the Kia.
Assisting at the scene were the Morrison County Sheriff's Office, Gold Cross Ambulance and the Pierz Fire Department.
