A Pierz man died when his motorcycle hit a hay bale in the road in Morrison County Thursday, Aug. 15.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports Myles Steven McGrath, 64, was traveling south on Highway 25, behind a southbound 2003 Dodge Ram pulling a trailer loaded with hay. He was south of 273rd Street in Platte Township on his 2016 Can-Am Spyder motorcycle just after 5:30 p.m. Thursday, when the crash occurred. Three hay bales were lost in traffic, and McGrath crashed into one of them before veering off the road into the median ditch. McGrath, who was wearing a helmet, was transported via North Memorial Air Care to a North Memorial medical facility, where he later died.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, 57-year-old Roger Allen Lanners of Royalton, was not injured.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, North Memorial Air, Pierz Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance assisted at the scene.
