ATV crash in Cass County injures 2
BOY RIVER—Two people were injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash the night of Wednesday, May 29, in Cass County on the Soo Line Trail near Boy River.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office was notified about 9 p.m. by the Essentia Health-Deer River emergency room that two people involved in an ATV crash were being treated.
Benjamin Swankier, 21, of Remer, was operating a 2011 Polaris RZR on the Soo Line Trail when it left the trail and struck trees.
Swankier and his passenger, Kristine Johnson, 20, of Remer, were transported by private vehicle to the emergency room. Swankier was later transported to a Duluth hospital by North Memorial Air Care for treatment of serious injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash and the investigation continues, according to Sheriff Tom Burch.
