ROYALTON -- Two Rice residents were treated for non-life-threatening injuries Monday, Aug. 19, after a truck collided with their vehicle on Highway 10 in Royalton, near the Dairy Queen at 624 Cedar St.
Sandra Jean Alferness, 77, and her passenger, Merwin Herscher Alferness, 76, were exiting the Dairy Queen parking lot in a 2009 Nissan Cube and entering Highway 10 at roughly 1:35 p.m., Monday afternoon, when a northbound 2002 Ford pickup truck operated by Larry Joseph Dewald, 77, of Wadena, struck them.
Both Sandra and Merwin Alferness were transported to St. Cloud Hospital to be treated. Dewald was not injured in the crash. All three wore seat belts, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Along with the state patrol, deputies of the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
