Walls are going up for the addition at Harrison Elementary School, which includes a new full-sized gymnasium.

A larger cafeteria will occupy the space of the current gym.

Other plans for the building include a new secure entrance of Norwood Street, a media center and learning commons outside each grade’s pod of classrooms. The construction is slated to be complete in the fall of 2020.

The $19 million project, a result of last year’s referendum, is part of the first wave of construction projects in the Brainerd School District, along with Nisswa Elementary School, Forestview Middle School, Brainerd High School and the new elementary school in Baxter.
