Ag Day honors, winners

Ag Day was celebrated at the Crow Wing County Fair Thursday.

The Richard and Kathryn Gross Farm of Aitkin was honored as a Century Farm, having been in continuous family ownership for over 100 years. Arlene and Bob Jones of the Farm on St. Mathias received recognition as Crow Wing County's Farm Family of the Year.

Dairy princesses Alyson Koering and Reilley Hettver, along with ambassadors Kirsten Scherer, Grace Studniski and Anna Young, represented the dairy industry and Kathy Segler was honored as outstanding 4-H livestock leader. Grey Eagle Pork received a certificate of appreciation for their promotion of pork.

Bonnie Nowocki of Pillager won the "Guess the Height" of the corn stalk with her guess of 9 feet 4 3/4 inches. The stalk was 9 feet 5 inches tall.

Oklahoma, the beef steer, weighed 1,125 pounds. Winners in the "guess the weight" contest were Cindy Pulak, Brian Sweet, Mary Fletcher, Andrea Bloomquist, and Ashley Foust. Hannah Studniski and Avy Lease won the egg toss. The Fleet Farmers (Devon Kroll; Joseph, Arica and Daric Caughey) and the Milk-aholics (Levi Raddatz, Avy Lease, John Paul Nelson and Hannah Studniski) won the milk drinking relays.
