Summer months can be an especially difficult time to collect the blood and platelets patients need for lifesaving transfusions.
Vacation plans and other seasonal activities can cause some donors to be less available to give, but the need for blood remains.
Due to the decline in summer donors, the American Red Cross is teaming up with Nexcare Bandages and supermodel and blood recipient, Niki Taylor, to urge blood and platelet donations. This year World Blood Donor Day, a celebration of all donors, will be June 14.
Sharing information about the importance of continual donors with the community can help ensure blood remains available to those in need all summer long, the Red Cross reported. As a celebrity spokesperson, Taylor brings awareness to the cause by partnering with Nexcare Give program which inspires people to give blood on a regular basis.
