Boy Scouts Austin Erickson of Baxter and Blake Collins of Merrifield and adult leader Kenneth Toole of Baxter are part of the Central Minnesota Council contingent departing this week for the Boy Scout National Jamboree.
The contingent is made up of 17 Boy Scouts from across central Minnesota and four adults. They will visit the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio, on their way to Washington, D.C., where they will tour for four days before attending the 10-day-long National Jamboree.
The National Jamboree brings together Scouts from every state and even international scouts. An estimated 40,000 Boy Scouts of America members will take up residence at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. In 2009, the BSA purchased 10,600 acres of property adjacent to West Virginia's New River Gorge National River area to create the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve.
The Summit is the home of achievement, adventure and innovation in Scouting. With world-class facilities and a focus on outdoor action sports, the Summit will host its second National Jamboree starting July 19, a news release stated.
The Scouts will have 10 days packed with activities from water sport and mountain biking to stage shows and military displays.
