LASTRUP-A Pierz man accused of assault led authorities on a 10-mile chase Tuesday at nearly 90 mph through Morrison County.
The Morrison County Sheriff's Office reported at 4:14 p.m., a vehicle stopped behind a deputy's squad car while the deputy was conducting an investigation on an unrelated matter near the intersection of 183rd Street and 255th Avenue, north of Pierz. The driver reported they were assaulted earlier that day by the person sitting in the front passenger seat.
As deputies were talking to the suspect in the passenger seat and instructing him to step out, the passenger moved into the driver's seat and fled in the vehicle. A pursuit ensued, traveling through the city of Lastrup and ending on 203rd Street east of 225th Avenue in Buh Township.
The pursuit went on for about 10 miles, reaching speeds near 90 mph. The lead squad car in the pursuit eventually performed a pursuit intervention technique, also called a PIT maneuver, which stopped the suspect's vehicle.
The 26-year-old was arrested and is being held at the Morrison County Jail awaiting formal charges.
