ATV strikes truck, sending 2 to hospital

A Brainerd man and a 12-year-old child were hospitalized Sunday, April 26, after the all-terrain vehicle they were riding crashed with a truck in northeast Brainerd.

The Brainerd Police Department was called at 4:43 p.m. to the crash where an ATV was traveling west on L Street and a Ford truck was traveling south on Fourth Avenue Northeast. The ATV was approaching the intersection when it failed to stop for the posted stop sign and was struck by the truck, authorities reported.

Brainerd police reported Frankie Rodriguez, 34, was driving the ATV recklessly and suffered fractures. His passenger, Xzavianna Bethel of Brainerd had no serious injuries. Rodriguez and Bethel were transported by North Memorial Health Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. The driver of the truck, Todd Petila, 18, Brainerd, was not injured.
