Barb Geiger, author of "Paddle for a Purpose," the story of a kayak service trip down the Mississippi River, will make several appearances for book signings in the area this week.

Geiger and her husband, Gene, paddled their homemade tandem kayak from Lake Itasca to the Gulf of Mexico in 2013, stopping to volunteer in towns along the way with over two dozen nonprofit organizations.

In Minnesota, these included Fishing Has No Boundaries in Bemidji, Grace House in Grand Rapids, Salem West and The Mustard Seed in Deerwood, Camp Confidence and Let's Go Fishing in Brainerd, Pine Edge Veteran's Home and Kinship of Morrison County in Little Falls and Habitat for Humanity in the Twin Cities.

Each of these charities is featured in the book, as well as stories about the couple's river adventures and the kind and helpful people they met during their trip. Author profits from the sale of the book will be donated to charity, including every one of those featured in its pages.

Book signings will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at CatTales Books & Gifts in Brainerd;
