The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office was called at 9:57 p.m. Monday to conduct a welfare check on the 200 block of Pony Farm Road in Onamia Township. Deputies along with an Onamia police officer arrived and located the deceased male. The body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey County for an autopsy.

Mille Lacs County Sheriff Don Lorge Wednesday confirmed the sheriff’s office apprehended the suspect, identified as Harlan Davis Swanson. In an email, Lorge stated Swanson was arrested in a building east of where the homicide had taken place. Swanson was expected to appear for his arraignment Thursday in Mille Lacs County District Court.

The Dispatch’s policy is to not identify suspects until they are charged, unless it is a serious felony, such as murder.

Lorge said the case is under investigation and did not release any further details of the death investigation. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
