MENAHGA - A Detroit Lakes woman whose body was found outside a Menahga home last month died of strangulation, according to her death certificate.

Family members found 32-year-old Kelly Marie Lund dead in a tent on her brother’s lawn the morning of July 12. She had returned to her hometown for the annual Midsummer Festival and was camping out with her boyfriend, Robert Mieseler.

The death certificate -- filed last week after the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy -- lists the cause of death as a “ligature wrapped around neck multiple times causing asphyxia.”

How the death came about -- and the exact time of injury -- “could not be determined,” the certificate states.

Some of Lund’s family members have claimed she died as a result of foul play, but authorities have urged the public to avoid jumping to conclusions.

Menahga Police Chief Scott Koennicke could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Wadena County Attorney Kyra Ladd said Tuesday that law enforcement hasn’t sent her any information about the case to review for possible criminal charges.
