Those interested in presenting or having a vendor/exhibitor booth at the Back to Basics event in January must register by Nov. 13, organizers report.
The 10th annual event-put on by sustainable living nonprofit Happy Dancing Turtle, Pine River-Backus Community Education and continuing education partner Central Lakes College-will take place 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at PR-B High School. This year's theme is "Blueprints for a Better Tomorrow." The event includes workshop sessions, a keynote speaker, vendors, exhibitors, a luncheon, door prizes and more.
The keynote speaker will be Tom Fisher, a nationally recognized design professor who for 18 years served as the dean of the College of Design at the University of Minnesota. He is currently the director of the U of M's Metropolitan Design Center. Fisher has been named a Top 25 design educator four times, has lectured at 36 universities and at more than 150 events, has countless publications and has written nine books. His newest book, "Designing Our Way to a Better World," will be released in the spring, and the title serves as the theme of his keynote speech.
Continuing education credits are available. A school-aged (kindergarten through fourth grade) children's program will run concurrently. The cost is $30 for the full day, including lunch, and $20 for the full day for the children's program, also including lunch. The cost for seniors age 60 and older or full-time students is $25. Single workshop sessions are $6 each, double workshop sessions are $12 each and lunch is $9 for those not purchasing the full day.
Registration will open in early December for those wishing to attend, and can be completed at www.happydancingturtle.org . The vendor area is open to the public free of charge the day of the event.
