BACKUS -- The Backus Cornfest “Wolverine Pride” is coming Friday-Sunday, Aug. 9-11, featuring an all-school reunion, dining opportunities, a new car show and fireworks at dusk, as usual.
Following is a schedule of events:
Friday, Aug. 9:
5:30 p.m.: Meat raffle at the Backus American Legion.
6 p.m.: Dinner at the school of sloppy Joes, hot dogs, salad and chips. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and under with a paying adult. Entry includes social hour fee.
8 p.m.: Social hour at the school, $2.
8 p.m.: Street dance on Front Street with the Wayne Renn Band, with a food booth and beer garden.
Saturday, Aug. 10:
7 a.m.: 5K run hosted by Foothills Christian Academy.
8 a.m.-4 p.m.: Craft and vendor fair on Front Street.
9 a.m.: Roll available at the Pine Mountaineers Senior Center.
9:30 a.m.: Parade line up in the school parking lot.
10 a.m.: Treasure hunt maps available.
11 a.m.: Parade begins with corn feed to follow. Corn feed cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12, and free for ages 5 and under with a paying adult. The meal is all-you-can-eat corn on the cob with ham, wild rice hot dish, potato salad and watermelon.
11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Music and games with DJ Walzy.
1 p.m.: Money scramble.
1-4 p.m.: Kids games and relay races on Front Street.
2 p.m.: Cake walk.
2 p.m.: Bean bag and horseshoe toss tournaments at the Backus American Legion.
4-8 p.m.: Fishing bowl tournament near the beer garden.
4-7 p.m.: Games on Front Street with Damascus Way motorcycle club.
8:45 p.m.: 50/50 drawing. Michelle Bergerson won the 2018 pot of $2,000.
8 p.m.-midnight: Street dance in front of Willard’s Saloon and Eatery featuring Tom Endriss.
Dusk: Fireworks.
Sunday, Aug. 11:

7:30-11:30 a.m.: Breakfast at the Backus American Legion.
10:30-11:30 a.m.: Church service on Front Street.
Noon: Lunch at the Cornfest food booth.
Noon: Country Cruisers Car Club on Front Street.
2-5 p.m.: Music by Frankie Lamb at the Backus American Legion.
3 p.m.: Backus American Legion raffle drawing.
