Barricaded suspect taken into custody

A man who was barricaded in a home in Cass Lake with a firearm and who was making threats was taken into custody by the Cass County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday morning.

A man who was barricaded in a home in Cass Lake with a firearm and who was making threats was taken into custody by the Cass County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday morning.

The suspect, 31-year-old Christopher Morris-Headbird, also indicated he had a female hostage with him. In response, the sheriff's office activated the Emergency Response Unit at approximately 2:50 a.m.

A search warrant was obtained and then executed at approximately 5:40 a.m.

After a lengthy negotiation, terms were agreed upon and the suspect surrendered the weapon. Both the suspect and hostage were removed from the residence.

Morris-Headbird of Cass Lake remains in custody.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by Leech Lake Tribal Police, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Leech Lake Ambulance.
