Baxter extends work time for Woida, Wildflower, Franklin project

BAXTER - A 14-day extension for Pratt's Affordable Excavating was approved for the completion of the Wildflower and Franklin drives and Woida Road construction project meaning work may be done on Halloween.

BAXTER - A 14-day extension for Pratt's Affordable Excavating was approved for the completion of the Wildflower and Franklin drives and Woida Road construction project meaning work may be done on Halloween.

Original plans were for completion on Oct. 24. High groundwater and difficult dewatering conditions were outlined because of significant rainfall. The contractor noted from pre-bid conditions in April to the beginning of construction in July, groundwater elevations rose 4.5 feet.

In other business, the city council:

Heard a presentation from Tom Whiteside, field and constituent representative for Congressman Rick Nolan. The Hibbing native said he was available anytime anyone wanted to talk about federal issues. He spoke with city staff to get an update on projects in Baxter. Whiteside's is available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from an office in Brainerd City Hall.

Approved partial pay of $299,575.81 to Pratt's Affordable Excavating.

Approved the lift station No. 9 rehabilitation project to CCS Contracting Inc. for $95,700.

Accepted a $500 donation from Baxter Lions for the Night to Unite.

Accepted a $360 donation from Gary and Lola Villwock for the Baxter Police K-9 program.

Established a new city hall door access system so employees will need identification badges to get access to city hall and offices.
