BAXTER — A kitchen fire at a Baxter home drew Brainerd Fire Department response Tuesday, June 1.

The homeowner of the house on the 13000 block of Berrywood Drive discovered the fire upon returning home about 1:55 p.m. The Baxter Police Department arrived at the address and saw smoke coming from the house before about 18 Brainerd firefighters responded.

Crews arrived and quickly extinguished the fire in the kitchen, Fire Chief Tim Holmes reported, before checking for possible spread and ventilating the home to clear out the smoke and heat. The fire was contained to the kitchen area, but smoke damage occurred throughout most of the house, Holmes stated.

The fire appears to be accidental and there is not yet an estimate for the cost of damage.

Also responding to the scene was North Memorial Health Ambulance.
