ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced that the Sherburne County Attorney’s Office recently charged Jared Neil Brigmon of Becker with 23 tax-related felonies.
Mr. Brigmon is charged with 13 counts of making retail sales after revocation of a permit, 5 counts of failing to file income tax returns, and 5 counts of failing to pay income taxes.
According to the complaint, in June 2013 the Minnesota Department of Revenue revoked the sales tax permit for Mr. Brigmon’s business, Forever Green Tree Care, after he failed to pay a sales tax liability of over $225,000 for sales made between April 2006 and April 2010. Department investigators determined that Mr. Brigmon continued doing business using alternate business names while his sales tax permit was revoked, the complaint states. The complaint also alleges that Mr. Brigmon failed to file and failed to pay income taxes for tax years 2010 through 2015.
Each tax-related felony charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
