Bemidji man sentenced for assaulting jail officers

BEMIDJI - A Bemidji man who assaulted officers at the Beltrami County Jail in April has been sentenced for felony assault in Beltrami County District Court.

BEMIDJI - A Bemidji man who assaulted officers at the Beltrami County Jail in April has been sentenced for felony assault in Beltrami County District Court.

Nakaylin James Yost, 20, was charged after he assaulted two corrections officers while he was an inmate at the jail on April 4. Yost was sentenced to 111 days local confinement in the same jail.

Shortly after Yost was charged with assault last year, he appeared in Beltrami County District Court for a civil commitment hearing, where he agreed to be committed to the Anoka-Metro Regional Treatment Center for assessment. After Yost completed treatment he pleaded guilty to the assault charge Dec. 8. Criminal files are placed on inactive status once an inmate has been committed to an institution.

Yost has been credited with 74 days time served and placed on four years supervised probation.. Yost faced a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.
