The Brainerd High School Key Club, featuring 62 student members in ninth through 12th grades, recently took home several awards from the annual Minnesota-Dakotas District Convention hosted March 6-8 in Fargo, North Dakota.
In attendance were newly elected officers Lauren Goralsky, president; Gabe Maurer, vice president; Julia Goralsky, secretary; Erin Host, treasurer; Ceci Boche, webmaster; Lindsie McKusick and Kalina Vandeputte, co-editors; and retiring officers Ammy Lin, president, and Chris Boucher, vice president.
The following awards were received: First place Gold Achievement for 2019-20; second place club with most points; first place monthly newsletter; first place gold category Single Service Award for Holiday Grams & Cocoa Coats for Kids Foundation Fundraiser; third place Major Emphasis Project Award for Spring Lunch Jam for Children's Miracle Network Fundraiser; third place for Scrapbook Award; first place for Spirit on Social Media Award; and first place for Team Spirit Award. In addition, Lauren and Julie Goralsky tied for third place in the oratory competition; and Lin was a finalist in the talent competition and received the Distinguished President Award.
The club is sponsored by Brainerd Kiwanis and advised by Wendy Vandeputte. Throughout the year, Key Club offers an extensive array of service to the school, community and greater world, a news release stated.
