Brainerd High School senior Matthew Soukup received his Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 45.

To earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills. The award is a performance-based achievement with standards that have been well-maintained over the years, according to a news release. While at the rank of Life Scout, Soukup planned, developed and gave leadership to his service project of a pergola in Gregory Park, benefiting the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department.

Soukup is enlisted with the U.S. Army Reserves as a medic and will attend South Dakota State University in the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in the spring of 2020 following his military training.
