NEW YORK MILLS-The Cultural Center in New York Mills has openings for "The Little Big Year's Birding" workshop at 7 p.m. May 2, presented by Ben Eckhoff.

Eckhoff is the area interpretive naturalist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources-Division of Parks and Trails.

At this workshop, people will learn about birds, such as ruby-throated hummingbirds and Baltimore orioles, including what they eat, their nesting habits, how to attract them to a yard and more. Both species eat nectar, but the larger beaked orioles require different ports or styles of feeders to allow them access to the food. This workshop will include a presentation by Eckhoff, a question-and-answer session and building an oriole feeder to take home. Children must be accompanied by an adult and the cost of the feeder is $7.

All materials and equipment will be provided.

There are a limited number of spaces available for the feeder building portion of the workshop and participation will be determined on a first come, first served basis.
