POWDER ISLAND, Canada - Police say a body found on Powder Island on Lake of the Woods has been identified as Keith Ayers, who disappeared six months ago in a boating accident on the lake.

Officers from the Kenora Department of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a deceased male about 6 p.m. Tuesday found on the shoreline of the lake that straddles the Canadian border in northern Minnesota. The body was recovered Wednesday.

The find comes after Lake of the Woods County Sheriff Gary Fish said an aerial search for Ayers, 28, conducted early last week, turned up no new leads.

Ayers, a fishing guide from Pennsylvania, along with Justin Kelly Haugtvedt, 22, and Cody Joseph Ostendorf, 24, were reported missing Oct. 3 after their boat was found capsized on Lake of the Woods.

The bodies of Haugtvedt and Ostendorf were found a week after they were reported missing, but searchers only found Ayers' shoe and jacket in the months after the accident.
