The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office Bombs Squad on Thursday responded to a suspicious backpack found abandoned at the Brainerd Post Office.
The Brainerd Police Department received a call at about 2:50 p.m. of a report of a suspicious backpack that was left in the lobby area of the post office, 422 Laurel Street, Brainerd. The initial report was that a backpack had been left in the lobby area of the post office and it was unknown who the backpack belonged to.
Alert postal workers at the facility notified law enforcement and temporarily closed the lobby to the public. Workers estimated the backpack was there for about 30 minutes. Responding law enforcement officers contained the area while personnel from the local bomb team were summoned to the scene. The backpack was X-rayed and the contents were evaluated by bomb team personnel. It was determined that the backpack did not pose a threat. Law enforcement and postal workers are attempting to identify the owner of the backpack.
Responding law enforcement has no reason to believe that this incident is related to Tuesday's incident where a Baxter Postal worker made threatening comments was found in possession of an inert grenade.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department, the Brainerd Police Department and the bomb team responded to the incident.
