After formally accepting the resignation of council member Sue Hilgart Monday, Aug. 5, the Brainerd City Council agreed to take applications to fill her vacancy.
Any Brainerd resident interested in filling the seat from Sept. 16 through Election Day in November 2020 can pick up an application at city hall. Applications will be accepted now through 4:30 p.m. Sept. 4.
Applicants will be able to give presentations before the council during a special meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 9. The council will choose a replacement at that meeting, with the new council member beginning duties during the regular meeting Sept. 16.
A special election will take place in November 2020 to elect a candidate to fill the remaining two years of Hilgart’s term.
Hilgart told council members during a workshop two weeks ago she accepted a job offer in Arizona.
