Two Brainerd attorneys were appointed Dec. 24 by Gov. Mark Dayton as district court judges in Minnesota's 9th Judicial District.
The appointments are Patricia Alander Aanes, who will replace Judge David J. Ten Eyck in Crow Wing County in Brainerd, and Charles D. Halverson, who will replace Judge David F. Harrington in Cass County in Walker.
"Throughout their honorable careers serving in both public and private practices, Ms. Patricia Aanes and Mr. Charles Halverson have demonstrated their exceptional commitments to pursuing justice for all Minnesotans," Dayton stated in a news release. "I thank them for agreeing to continue their public service, as district court judges in Minnesota's 9th Judicial District."
Minnesota's 9th Judicial District consists of Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake and Roseau counties.
Aanes is a solo practitioner at Patricia A. Aanes Attorney at Law, where she focuses on family law litigation and mediation. Previously, she was a partner at Erickson & Aanes Law Offices, a partner at Erickson, Pearson & Aanes Law Offices, an associate at Erickson & Pearson Law Offices, and a law clerk for judges Michael Seibel and Donald E. Rysavy, 3rd Judicial District court judges. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris, and her juris doctorate law degree from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law.

Aanes serves as the board chair of Crow Wing County Victim Services and Brainerd Lakes YMCA and is vice-chair of the Brainerd Public Schools Foundation. Aanes is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and participates in youth ministry.
Halverson is a solo practitioner at Halverson Law Office, where he primarily serves as a defense attorney in criminal cases and general counsel for a bail bond company. Additionally, he works as pro bono counsel in child support, paternity, guardianship, child in need of protection and civil commitment cases. Previously, he was an assistant public defender at the 9th Judicial District Public Defender's Office, an associate attorney at Borden, Steinbauer & Krueger and a judicial law clerk in the 9th Judicial District. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota and his juris doctorate law degree from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law.
Halverson is a member of the 15th District Bar Association and a certified criminal law specialist.
