The city of Brainerd is asking residents to participate in a survey for its comprehensive plan update process.

It is seeking input to help define community-developed goals and aspirations to guide future planning efforts that will help create a vision for the next 15-20 years.

A comprehensive plan is an expression of the community's vision for the future and a strategic map to reach that vision. Comprehensive planning is an important tool for cities to guide future development of land to ensure a safe, pleasant and economical environment for residential, commercial, industrial and public activities.

A public participation process began in 2016 when a Community Survey Panel was formed and volunteers joined in a series of surveys offering their ideas about the community. The results of this survey will be compared with the results of the Community Survey Panel surveys. All city of Brainerd and area residents, business owners, community groups, students, artists and others are asked to participate in the survey. Residents can access the survey through the city of Brainerd's website at ci.brainerd.mn.us or through the project's website at www.imaginebrainerd.org . It is available through Aug. 12. Hard copies are also available at city hall.

A Comprehensive Plan Update Steering Committee made of 13 members representing the local business community, citizens at large and other various stakeholders from the area was appointed by the Brainerd City Council. The steering committee's role is to collaborate with and involve stakeholders to ensure that community aspirations and concerns are understood, considered and reflected in the plan.
