The Brainerd FFA Chapter recently had six chapter members attend the Washington Leadership Conference, in Washington, D.C.
The six Brainerd FFA members are Arica Caughey, Jenna Caughey, Emelia Hinrichs, Madeline Hinrichs, Karli Knopf and Olivia Ostrowski.
FFA members from across the nation came together to learn how they can become engaged citizens who can make a noticeable difference in their community, a news release stated. The conference was focused around the four aspects: me, we, do and serve.
When the conference began, FFA members focused on themselves and found out what their strengths are and what their purpose is. They toured the Arlington National Cemetery because those buried there knew what their strengths were, the release stated. FFA members also went on a night tour of the monuments, where they saw key figures who lived a life of purpose.
The second day was focused on diversity, and how no great thing was ever accomplished alone. Members learned how to embrace their differences and how diversity is more than just race and ethnicity.

The third day was dedicated to advocacy and how members must develop a sense of who they are and the values of others to help them advocate. Members toured the Newseum, where they were exposed to numerous examples of what it truly means to advocate.
The last day was focused solely on service, where they bagged 55,680 Bags of Hope, which will go to those in need in the Washington, D.C., community.
The Brainerd FFA is a student-led organization. The members are dedicated to leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.
