Brainerd History Week events set Aug. 9-12

Community members of all ages are invited to attend festivities for Brainerd History Week Aug. 9-12.

Old favorites returning this year include tours of the Northern Pacific Center, Riverview, downtown and the cemetery.

New this year is the community bike ride at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11. Registration is required by calling Easy Riders at 218-829-5516.

Brainerd History Week events are put on by local volunteers using strictly donations. Anyone who wants to contribute monetary donations can send them to: Brainerd Community Action, ℅ BHW, 213 S. Fifth St. Brainerd, MN 56401.

The full schedule is as follows:

Thursday, Aug. 9

• Northern Pacific Center tours: 1-5 p.m. every half hour, starting at the clock tower.

• Hot rod and antique car show, including Brainerd International Raceway 50th anniversary car collection: 1-7 p.m., in the Northern Pacific Center open courtyard.

• Food trucks: 1-7 p.m., in the Northern Pacific Center open courtyard.

• Beer social: 5:30 p.m. at Roundhouse Brewery

Friday, Aug. 10

• Laurel Street bridge railing dedication: 10 a.m., meet at the Brainerd Fire Hall

• Riverview Brainerd history walk and White Park historical marker dedication: 11 a.m., meet at the vacant lot south of Northstar Apartments.

• Daughters of the American Revolution Gregory Park marker dedication: 1 p.m., meet at the Gregory Park water fountain.

• Central Lakes College 80th anniversary celebration: 1-5 p.m., meet at Door No. 1.

• Downtown history walk: 2:30 p.m., meet at Brainerd Public Library.

Saturday, Aug. 11

• Paul Bunyan Land and This Old Farm Pioneer Village: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Evergreen Cemetery history walk: 10:30-11:30 a.m., meet at First Avenue gate.

• Community bike ride from Brainerd/Baxter to Crow Wing State Park: 12:30 p.m., meet at Easy Riders Bike Shop.

• Crow Wing State Park historical presentation: 2 p.m. at the park's Beaulieu house.

• Downtown Brainerd history walk: 7 p.m., meet at the Brainerd Public Library.

Sunday, Aug. 12

• Paul Bunyan Land and This Old Farm Pioneer Village: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• Riverview Brainerd history walk: 1 p.m., meet at the vacant lot south of Northstar Apartments.

• Lum Park walk and tour: 3 p.m., meet at the north end of the park by the old fire pit.

• Brainerd Ski Loons Water Ski Show: 5 p.m., on the shore of Rice Lake.
