A fire alarm woke up a northeast Brainerd resident early Tuesday morning to the smell of smoke.
The Brainerd Fire Department was called at 6:34 a.m to a house fire at 818 Eighth Ave, NE., Brainerd. The fire was contained in the attic and kitchen area of the home. Estimated damage to the home is $12,000.
The resident and a pet were not injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is not known.
Firefighters were then called at 8:46 a.m. to the Country Inn and Suites, 15058 Dellwood Drive, to what turned out to be a false alarm.
