Gothic suspense author Wendy Webb will make an appearance at noon Monday, March 4, at the Brainerd Public Library.

The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library bring authors to the library on the first Monday of the month to speak about their latest work and the craft of writing. These events give local book lovers a chance to connect with up-and-coming and award-winning authors from around the Midwest, a news release stated.

Webb will discuss her latest novel, "Daughters of the Lake." The book tell the story of Kate Granger, who at end of her marriage retreats to her parents' home on Lake Superior to pull herself together-only to discover the body of a murdered woman washed into the shallows. Tucked in the folds of the woman's curiously vintage gown is an infant, as cold and at peace as its mother. No one can identify the woman. Except for Kate. She's seen her before. In her dreams.

A Minnesota native, Webb has lived in France and Washington, D.C. She currently lives in Minneapolis, but was a Duluth resident for 16 years.

"For centuries, people who have lived on Lake Superior have thought of it as a great spirit, a living thing that is sometimes benevolent, sometimes vengeful," Webb stated in a news release. "I've always loved those legends and brought them to life in this book."
