• Brainerd police were dispatched at 8:24 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, to an address on South Seventh Street in Brainerd on a report of a female who had been assaulted by a male and her hand was bleeding. The victim said she was living with her boyfriend, identified as Johnson, who had assaulted her with a steak knife in their apartment.

• Officers responded to a disturbance incident with the couple a short time before the knife incident. The victim allowed Johnson to return home if he would go to bed. After officers cleared the disturbance, the victim said Johnson took a steak knife and reached around her from the back. He had the knife in his left hand and held it to her throat.

• The victim told officers that Johnson said if she attempted to leave him he would kill her.

• The victim ran from the apartment and telephoned police. The victim also told officers Johnson had thrown a glass and hit her in the face with it.

• Officers observed the victim had a bruise on her face, a slight cut on her neck and her hand was bleeding. The victim also indicated that she had bruises up and down her arms and chest as a result of Johnson striking her.

• Officers located a steak knife on the kitchen floor, where the victim said the incident happened.

Johnson has a prior domestic assault conviction from July 19, 2012, and March 25, 2013.
