A 43-year-old Brainerd man is accused of trying to break down a locked bathroom door with a hammer while the victim was inside.
Jedidiah Zoe Roberts was charged Sept. 10 in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd with six felonies — three counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of fifth-degree drug possession and two counts of first-degree property damage to cause bodily harm and causing more than $1,000 in damages. He also faces three misdemeanor domestic assault charges and misdemeanor of obstructing the legal process.
The charges stem from a report at 10:31 a.m. Sept. 8 of a domestic assault at a residence in northeast Brainerd. Brainerd police were told Roberts was trying to break down the door with a hammer and the caller was locked in the bathroom and extremely frightened. While responding, officers were told Roberts had forced his way into the bathroom, but left the residence shortly after he discovered the woman was on the phone with 911 dispatchers.
When officers arrived, Roberts was walking out of the residence carrying a garbage bag and a child's pink lunch box. Officers detained Roberts in the front yard of the residence and met with the victim, who was visibly upset.
The victim told police Roberts' behavior was off recently and had escalated to him destroying property and threatening others the day of the assault.

When officers arrested Roberts he would not get into the squad car. Officers spent several minutes trying to convince Roberts to stand up and walk to the car. However, Roberts continually refused to follow directions and said he would not go into the car and go to jail. Officers eventually directed Roberts into the squad car, he was evaluated at the hospital and transported to the Crow Wing County Jail.
While Roberts was detained in the front yard, he told officers there was methamphetamine in the pink lunch box that he had with him. After his arrest, an investigator found two methamphetamine pipes and three small plastic baggies, one of which appeared to have a trace amount white powdery type of residue inside it; two capped hypodermic needles and one uncapped hypodermic; and three other small plastic baggies that appeared to have trace amounts of a white powdery substance in it, as well as a spoon that had a white substance caked on it. The substances tested positive for methamphetamine.
Roberts, who continues to be in Crow Wing County Jail, has three prior convictions for controlled substance offenses.
According to court documents, Roberts’ next court hearing is at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 20.
