A 37-year-old Brainerd man is facing felony domestic charges after allegedly assaulting a woman at a Brainerd home.
Michael Anthony Thurstin appeared Tuesday before Judge Kristine DeMay in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd. He was charged with felony third-degree assault to cause substantial bodily harm, felony domestic assault by strangulation and gross misdemeanor domestic assault of being in violation of his probation.
Thurstin was given his statement of rights and a domestic abuse no contact order was reviewed. Unconditional bail was set at $100,000 and bond with conditions was set at $50,000.
A jury trial was scheduled for Aug. 15 for the defendant.
According to the probable cause court document filed against Thurstin:

• At 2:52 a.m. Saturday, the Brainerd Police Department received a report of the assault. The victim said Thurstin punched her with a closed fist on the left side of her face, knocking her to the floor. During the assault, the defendant also choked the victim. When officers arrived at the residence Thurstin became physical with officers and resisted arrest. Thurstin appeared to be extremely intoxicated during the arrest, the complaint stated.
Thurstin was previously convicted on Jan. 28, 2013, for making terroristic threats in Crow Wing County.
