A 24-year-old Brainerd man is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl and assaulting her older sister.
Carlton Lorenzo Sturkey was charged Thursday, April 19, in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct using penetration and force; two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct using fear and force; two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim age 13-15 and using force; a felony charge of making terroristic threats and misdemeanor domestic assault.
According to the probable cause court document filed against Sturkey, Brainerd officers were dispatched at 3:56 p.m. April 17 to a report of a disturbance at a home located in Brainerd. A sergeant arrived on scene and made contact with a woman who stated Sturkey assaulted one of her daughters and possibly sexually assaulted her juvenile daughter. The complaint alleges Sturkey punched one daughter multiple times after that daughter confronted Sturkey about raping her younger sister. Sturkey also allegedly threatened to kill the older sister if he ended up in jail.
The juvenile victim told officers Sturkey twice sexually assaulted her the previous night, in both cases telling her to stop refusing, according the complaint. The juvenile victim told police she attempted to get away from Sturkey but couldn't.
Sturkey appeared in front of Judge Erik J. Askegaard, who set bond at $100,000 without conditions or $50,000 with conditions. Conditions Sturkey must abide by include not entering the victim's home, not leaving the state without written court consent, not possessing a firearm, no use of alcohol or controlled substances and making all future court hearings.
