A 67-year-old Brainerd man will spend nine years in prison for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl at his Brainerd residence.
Lloyd D. Churchill was sentenced Jan. 29 by Judge Richard Zimmerman in Crow Wing District Court to nine years in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud prison for felony second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a significant relationship with a victim under age 16, where multiple acts were performed. The judge also set 10 years of conditional release after confinement.
Churchill was originally charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with penetration or contact with a person under 13 and second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 13, these charges were dismissed.
According to the criminal complaint against Churchill, Brainerd officers took a criminal sexual conduct complaint on Jan. 26, 2014. A father reported his 4-year-old daughter was being sexually abused by Churchill. She told her father that he touched her lady parts when she was visiting his residence in Brainerd. She said the sexual assault would happen when Churchill's wife was gone from the residence.
The girl was interviewed and she said she occasionally went to Churchill's residence. She described having a secret with the defendant that he put his hands down her pants. Churchill admitted to Brainerd investigators that he sexually assaulted the girl and put his hands in her pants. He admitted it happened at least one time in the past month but it might have happened one time before that.
