BAXTER — A 42-year-old Brainerd man is in jail for criminal vehicular homicide and other drunk driving related offenses following a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 78-year-old Baxter woman.
The Baxter crash was reported at 11:45 a.m Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the intersection of Highway 210 and Cypress Drive in Baxter. Officers and other responders arrived to find two vehicles involved — a 2003 Chevrolet truck and a 2010 Ford SUV. The Chevy was occupied by the driver, who was not injured. The Ford was occupied by three individuals, all of whom were injured.
The driver of the Ford, a 72-year-old Baxter woman, was transported by ambulance to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The front seat passenger, a 78-year-old Baxter woman, was transported by ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital and later died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, police reported. The backseat passenger, a 68-year-old Baxter woman, was transported by ambulance with serious injuries.

The names of those injured were being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives, police reported.
The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the Baxter Police Department in the investigation.
The Brainerd Fire Department, North Memorial Health Ambulance and the Brainerd Police Department assisted at the scene.
According to the Crow Wing County Jail custody list, the 42-year-old man was being held Wednesday for criminal vehicular homicide, criminal vehicular operation, driving while intoxicated and other traffic violations. A court date has not yet been set. Formal criminal charges are pending with the Crow Wing County Attorney’s Office.
