Brainerd mayor James Wallin will keep his seat for one final term.

As of press time Tuesday night, one precinct had not reported its results, but Wallin had received nearly 58 percent of votes.

"I want to thank all of the voters for getting out and voting for all of the candidates," Wallin said. "It's really an honor and privilege to be re-elected and to serve another four years."

Challenger Guy Green congratulated Wallin on the win.

"It's bittersweet," Green said, noting that voters made good choices electing two new council members, among other races.

"I take encouragement from that," he said.

This is the second time Green has run for mayor. He hasn't decided yet if he'll run again.

Wallin, 72, was first elected to the city council in 1977. He's been in the position of mayor for 16 years.

Wallin has also been airport city liaison for 20 years and chaired both city council committees.

In the community, he was in the National Guard for 35 years and has been a member of the American Legion for 40 years, a lifetime member of veteran organization The Forty and Eight, as well as AMVETS.

This is the final time Wallin will run for mayor.
