The Brainerd Public Library is hosting a series of six workshops led by local indie author Carissa Andrews to help writers navigate self-publishing their work.

The class titled "Author Platform-Be Ready to Engage" will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31. In this session, Andrews will introduce writers to the author platform, website and newsletter, and how to go about creating a social media presence-even if writers haven't finished their novel. She will also give plenty of ideas for expanding a writer's reach in local media and the writing community.

Andrews is an internationally best-selling author from central Minnesota who writes a combination of science fiction, fantasy and dystopia. As an expert in independent publishing and audiobook production, Andrews continually writes and publishes books readers of all ages enjoy. She's currently working on a young adult paranormal reverse harem romance trilogy called "The Windhaven Legacy," due out in 2019.

These free classes are for teens and adults at all stages of writing their novel or creative nonfiction work. Writers may attend one or all sessions. This series is funded in part with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on Nov. 4, 2008, which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota's arts and cultural heritage. Register by calling the library at 218-829-5574 or visit www.facebook.com/brainerdpubliclibrary .

Writers may attend one or all of the free Indie Writing Workshops at the Brainerd Public Library:
