High temperature records fell across the northland Saturday, Dec. 15, making it feel more like spring than a week before Christmas.
Brainerd topped a record high of 47 degrees set on Dec. 15, 1960,-by 1 degree. The high of 48 degrees recorded Saturday is now in sole place in the record books. The National Weather Service in Duluth noted new high temps were set in International Falls and Hibbing, both hitting 47 degrees. Temperatures across central Minnesota flirted with 50 degrees Saturday, with 49 degrees reported near Breezy Point and Cass Lake.
The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities noted the high temperatures in central Minnesota were 5 to 10 degrees warmer than surrounding areas in large part to the lack of snow on the ground. The snow depth is down to a trace in most areas. Sunny skies helped temperatures climb into the 40s again Sunday. The normal high for this time of year is 24 degrees.
The forecast calls for sunny skies again Monday with a high near 30 degrees. Expect more clouds to return for the rest of the week. Highs may reach 38 degrees Tuesday and 37 degrees Wednesday before cooling to the upper 20s later in the week.
