Brainerd teacher wins award

Brainerd Public Schools special education teacher Sue Sorensen was recently named Teacher of the Year 2017 by the Minnesota Association of Career and Technical Education/Special Needs Personnel.

Brainerd Public Schools special education teacher Sue Sorensen was recently named Teacher of the Year 2017 by the Minnesota Association of Career and Technical Education/Special Needs Personnel.

Sorensen has worked with the district for more than 16 years at Lincoln Education Center where she teaches classes in occupational skills and career exploration.

"We truly have been blessed to work with Sue and to have her on our team helping us serve and meet the needs of our special population of kids," said Nancy Anderson, principal at Lincoln Education Center, in a news release.

Sorensen was nominated by her coworker, Twila Ehrich-Belton.

Every other year, the Minnesota Association for Career and Technical Education/Special Needs Personnel recognizes the contributions and efforts of fellow professionals who have made a significant impact on the success of students in the field of career and technical education.

The Minnesota Association for Career and Technical Education/Special Needs Personnel is a statewide professional organization of individuals who coordinate work-based learning programs, teach, administer or provide transition services for students with special needs. The state association has been providing professional leadership since its charter in 1975.
