Brainerd VFW to sponsor essay competitions


The Brainerd VFW is sponsoring essay competitions.

Students in grades 6 to 8 compete by writing 300-400 words for Patriot’s Pen. Those in grades 9 through 12 write and read a three- to five-minute essay for Voice of Democracy.

There is $200,000 in prize money for those who go on to state and national.

The theme this year is, “What Makes America Great.” Deadline for submission is Oct. 31.
