Busy week but slow weekend for firefighters

The Brainerd Fire Department had a quiet weekend, with no calls reported, but were busy in the week leading up to the weekend.

At 8:56 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, firefighters were called to a gas line cut on the 9000 block of Wolves Street. Firefighters provided standby assistance.

On Wednesday, firefighters responded to five calls. At 3:48 a.m. there was a report of smoke and a gas smell on the 13000 block of Olivewood Drive, Baxter. Upon investigation, it was determined to be caused from a lightning strike. Firefighters were called at 11:42 a.m. to Diamond Willow Assisted Living, 14398 Grand Oaks Drive, Baxter, to a fire alarm, but were canceled en route.

At 1:25 p.m., firefighters responded to an alarm at Best Buy, 14555 Edgewood Drive, Baxter, which was determined to be a false alarm. Firefighters then headed back to Brainerd when they were called at 1:48 p.m. to the intersection of Southeast 13th and Oak streets for a report of a gas smell. Upon investigation, it was determined to be unfounded. At 6:04 p.m., firefighters responded to the 3600 block of Cedar Scenic Road for a tree on a power line. They provided standby assistance.

Firefighters responded to three calls Friday night, with the first call at 8:27 p.m. for a report of smoke in a house on the 13000 block of Knollwood Drive, Baxter. Firefighters investigated and determined the smoke alarm was caused by electrical equipment.


Firefighters had back-to-back calls just before 11 p.m., reported three minutes apart. The first was of a stove fire on the 600 block of Southwest Sixth Street. Upon arrival, fire was

out and firefighters ventilated the area. The second was for a small grass fire at the intersection of Timberwood Drive and Independence Road, which was extinguished.
