Camp Sertoma and its 2020 summer camp programs are canceled this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was announced in a news release.
“The safety, health and welfare of the campers, counselors, staff and families is Great Plains Camp Sertoma Club’s top priority,” organizers said in a news release. “The club pulls in staff from all around the United States and kids from five states. So even if the impact isn’t huge right now or maybe then, Camp Sertoma is really bigger than just five states.”
The logistics for contacting registered campers and their families about the closure of Camp Sertoma will be personally addressed by staff. Parents who have paid a camper fee will have a choice of a refund or applying the fee to 2021 Camp Sertoma. Campers who are currently registered for 2020 Camp Sertoma will have first chance to register next year and campers who will be in 9th grade next year will also be offered first chance to register for 2021 Camp Sertoma since they will be missing their last year at camp as an eighth grader.
