Canoe Day festivities set Saturday at Kiwanis Park

The Mississippi Headwaters Board will host its Canoe Day event starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Kiwanis Park in Brainerd.

The event will begin with social hour 9-10 a.m., during which attendees can visit informational booths with environmental, recreational and civic themes.

The canoe launch is 10-11 a.m. Participants will paddle down the Mississippi River and are expected to end at the Crow Wing State Park about 1:30 p.m. A free shuttle service will return paddlers to Kiwanis Park.

An authentic fur trade-era encampment will be set up 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Crow Wing State Park.

The first 100 participants will receive a free T-shirt.
