Parents and grandparents who transport children younger than the age of 9 are invited to have their car seats inspected and installed by a child passenger safety technician.
The Car Seat Checkup is from 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center, 523 N. Third St., Brainerd, lower level garage.
"The statistics are staggering. Nationally over 85 percent of kids are not restrained properly. Locally, 95 percent of the area's kids are not restrained properly. Essentia Health is excited to connect families with certified technicians to check seats and educate families on how to keep these precious lives safe," said Amanda Svir, Trauma Coordinator at Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Participants are invited to bring their car seat installed in their cars with their children and the trained technicians will evaluate if the car seat is the proper size for the child, if it is installed properly, and answer questions about car seat safety.
