WALKER - Cass County Engineer David Enblom Tuesday obtained board approval to spend an additional $10,000 to match $40,000 MnDOT will contribute to additional archeological studies on County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 77.

This will bring the county's total contribution to archaeological studies to $30,000. The studies are preliminary to planned road reconstruction work on CSAH 77.

The Minnesota Historic Preservation Office will review results of the studies to determine whether mitigation will be required as a part of construction design plans.

Enblom said studies completed to date to not suggest a mitigation plan would be necessary, but final determination remains with the state.

The board tabled until the next meeting a proposal to construct an equipment storage building at the Hackensack county garage site, just south of the city on Highway 371. The board asked for more bids for the project.

Plans call for using a pole building design. Yet to be determined is whether the floor would be asphalt or cement. The highway department and sheriff's office would store equipment inside the building, Enblom said.

The board did approve paying Anderson Gravel of Hackensack $1,352 for a Class 5 gravel base which has been laid at the site in preparation for the storage building.

Sheriff Tom Burch obtained board approval to accept a $27,029 federal boating safety supplemental grant to purchase a boat, motor and trailer.
