WALKER — Voters may apply now for absentee ballots for the upcoming March 3 presidential nomination primary online, in person, by mail or by submitting a completed application via fax or email.
The presidential nomination primary is a partisan primary for which a voter must declare a major political party to receive a ballot.
For information, applications, in-person absentee voting, and a complete list of Cass County absentee ballot locations, contact the Cass County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office at 218-547-7295, or visit co.cass.mn.us and click the Elections/Voting link. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The office is located at the Cass County Courthouse, 303 Minnesota Ave. W., Walker.
Absentee ballots require a witness. A witness may be any registered voter of Minnesota, including a spouse or relative; a notary public; or any person having authority to administer an oath. The witness must include a complete street address and sign the voter’s absentee ballot envelope for the ballot to be accepted.
All absentee ballot locations will have extended hours for absentee voting for the upcoming general election 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, and until 5 p.m. Monday, March 2.

Those who live in and are registered to vote in a mail ballot precinct should have received ballots about Feb. 1. Voters in mail ballot precincts will receive ballots for each party with instructions to select one ballot and complete the signature envelope with their political party choice. Failure to declare the political party of choice on the signature envelope will cause the ballot to be rejected under the state laws governing this specific election.
Those temporarily away who need their ballots sent to another location should apply for an absentee ballot. Voters in mail ballot precincts not preregistered may register and apply to vote by absentee ballot, or in-person on election day no later than 8 p.m. March 3. New voters can determine their precinct and method of voting by visiting mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us or the Cass County website’s Election/Voting link.
