BOY LAKE - Fairview Township Tuesday obtained a Cass County Board letter of support for its plan to build a connecting recreational trail link between East Gull Lake and Lake Shore and to seek grant money to pay for it.
The county board met at Boy Lake Town Hall Tuesday.
East Gull Lake has completed its segment on the south end of Gull Lake. Lake Shore's trail is being constructed this year in connection with a road resurfacing project on County State Aid Highway 77 toward the north end.
The section that would connect these is 8.8 miles through Fairview. It also runs parallel to Highway 77.
It would connect recreation areas at Gull Lake Dam, Fritz Loven Park, Pillsbury State Forest and Nisswa Lake Park and Recreation area as well as many private businesses and resorts.

In other business Tuesday:
Cass commissioners directed staff to work with the current solid waste contractor to develop a new solid waste contract to replace the current one when the current contract expires later this year.
Named Commissioners Scott Bruns and Jeff Peterson to work with city of Walker representatives to develop a plan for future improvements to the road running through the former Ah-Gwah-Ching property.
Passed a resolution to accept the donation of 1,273 acres in Poplar Township and 685 acres in Byron Township from Minnesota Deer Hunters Association. The association purchased the land with state Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage money (3/8ths cent sales tax proceeds) from Potlatch.
The property will become part of the county's land management plan and open to hunting and other recreational uses and timber management.
It is located adjacent to existing county owned and managed tax-forfeited land.
Land Commissioner Kirk Titus obtained board approval to award a contract to Mutch Forestry Service to mow Cut Lake, Snow Flea, Vermillion/Thunder Lake and Homebrook walking trails for a cost not to exceed $6,115.
Theirs was the lowest of four bids received. Work must be completed by Aug. 15.
